Core Teaching Qualification (CTQ)

The RSCDS is currently working on the development of a new teaching qualification, provisionally entitled the ‘Core Teaching Qualification’, to run in parallel with the current Teaching Certificate and aimed more specifically at the needs of those teaching or leading social dance groups and mixed-ability general classes. Information will be posted on this page as it becomes available.

Syllabus

A working party is currently developing a syllabus for the Core Teaching Qualification - watch this space for details as they become available.

Unit 1 equivalent

An open-book online theory examination, mirroring the Teaching Certificate Unit 1 in testing knowledge of the Manual, is planned to form part of the Core Teaching Qualification assessment process. Further information will be posted here as it becomes available.

Mentored teaching practice

It is proposed that teaching practice under the guidance of a mentor will form a major component of the Core Teaching Qualification. Watch this space for details as they become available.

Courses and assessment

Online courses are planned to form part of the Core Teaching Qualification in order  to facilitate distance learning, one of the objectives in introducing the CTQ.

Appropriate ways of assessing candidates who participate in the CTQ programme are under discussion.

Further information on these and other aspects of the CTQ will be posted on this page as it becomes available.

Candidates’ Forum

A Candidates' Forum is planned as part of the Core Teaching Qualification programme - watch this space for details as they become available.

Resources

Online resources for teachers are planned to play an important role in the Core Teaching Qualification. These will include teaching videos and a guide to teaching Scottish Country Dancing. Watch this space for further details as they become available.
